India Needs More Players in Aviation MRO Sector: Minister

India's aviation industry is experiencing rapid growth, presenting significant opportunities for investment and participation in the Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) sector. Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, V K Singh, highlighted the need for increased participation in the MRO sector during a seminar held at the 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit in Gandhinagar.

These initiatives include reducing the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on domestic MRO services from 18% to 5%, eliminating GST on export duty, removing import duty on specialized tools and equipment, and providing a waiver on customs duty for spare parts.

To further bolster the MRO sector, the government has permitted foreign direct investment (FDI) in the sector. This move aims to attract global players to invest in joint ventures or other forms of partnerships in India, bringing expertise and resources to enhance the country's MRO capabilities.

Recognizing the importance of skilled manpower for the MRO sector, the government emphasizes the need to train personnel who can provide specialized maintenance services. In the past decade, the government has introduced several policy reforms to liberalize the civil aviation sector. These reforms include a new civil aviation policy, a drone policy, and a policy for helicopter manufacturing. Regional Connectivity and Air Cargo

The Udan scheme for regional connectivity has played a pivotal role in democratizing air traffic in India. By introducing new airlines and smaller aircraft, the scheme has expanded the reach of air travel to smaller cities and towns, creating opportunities for regional development.
