In a significant development aimed at bolstering the auditing profession, the apex auditors of India and Nepal have inked a preliminary agreement. This pact, signed by Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) Girish Chandra Murmu and Auditor General of Nepal Toyam Raya, seeks to establish a dedicated platform for capacity development and knowledge exchange among auditing professionals. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) underscores a mutual commitment to enhancing collaboration and expertise exchange in the field of auditing.

The MoU aims to create a robust framework for capacity building and the sharing of knowledge and experiences among audit professionals and technical teams. This collaboration will include joint training programs and mutual assistance in conducting audits, as outlined in a statement released by the CAG on Thursday. The initiative is expected to significantly contribute to the professional development of auditors in both countries.
During his visit to Nepal, Murmu engaged in discussions with several high-ranking officials, including Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal. He briefed the Prime Minister on the cooperative efforts between the Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) of India and Nepal, highlighting the pivotal role of the newly signed MoU in public sector audit. Murmu emphasized that the SAI of India is at the forefront of adopting new technologies in its operational model, showcasing a progressive approach towards auditing practices.
Furthermore, Murmu's meetings with Nepal's Finance Minister Barsaman Pun and Chairman of Public Account Committee Rishikesh Pokharel focused on reinforcing the partnership between the SAIs of both nations. These discussions highlighted the multifaceted relationship between India and Nepal, with a particular emphasis on mutual cooperation in public sector auditing.
The signing ceremony was marked by Murmu's expression of confidence in the strengthened partnership between the SAIs of India and Nepal. He reflected on the long-standing shared values and goals between the two institutions, viewing the MoU as a reaffirmation of these ties. This agreement is hailed as a milestone in promoting closer relations and collaborative excellence in auditing practices between India and Nepal.
This initiative not only signifies a step forward in professional development and technological adoption within the realm of auditing but also adds another layer to the multi-dimensional relationship between India and Nepal. By fostering an environment of mutual learning and support, this agreement paves the way for enhanced efficiency and effectiveness in public sector audits, contributing to greater transparency and accountability in governance.
