The government has announced two new time-bound delivery services speed Post 24 and Speed Post 48, providing faster and more reliable deliveries across the country.
The announcement was made by Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Minister for Communications, during a public programme held at Pichor in Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh. The new services are an upgrade for India Post, especially at a time when customers expect quicker deliveries due to the rise of e-commerce and digital services.

What Are Speed Post 24 and Speed Post 48?
Under the new system, Speed Post 24 will ensure delivery of parcels and important documents within 24 hours. Simlrly the Speed Post 48 will guarantee delivery within 48 hours.
According to the minister, these services are designed to set new benchmarks for punctuality, reliability and speed in India Post's vast delivery network. He said the focus is not just on faster delivery, but on assured and predictable timelines, which customers increasingly demand today.
Speed Post Cost
The Cost of the new 24h and 48 hr speed pots have not been announced yet. The traditional Speed Post costs in India depend on weight and distance, starting around Rs. 15 for local & up to 50g and Rs. 35 for long-distance & up to 50g. For heavier items like 500g, it's roughly Rs. 30 for local to Rs. 90 for long-distance, with higher charges for more weight, plus potential GST and extra charges for services like OTP delivery.
Other Big Announcements made
Apart from the service launch, Jyotiraditya Scindia also inaugurated the renovated Pichhor sub-post office, which was upgraded at a cost of Rs. 2 lakh. In addition, he laid the foundation stone for a new sub-post office building, estimated to cost Rs. 1.11 crore.
During the event, the minister also spoke about recent telecom-sector reforms announced on December 29, 2025. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), through the National Centre for Communication Security (NCCS), has rolled out measures to boost indigenous manufacturing and testing capabilities.
Major chnages include A two-year extension of the Pro Tem Security Certification Scheme for telecom equipment makers. Reduced fees for Telecom Security Testing Laboratories. Up to 90% reduction in compliance costs for women-led and MSME testing labs. Full fee waivers for government testing agencies and IITs
