India is set to become a leader in 6G technology, with the help of its young population. The Prime Minister has called on youngsters to create applications that will integrate with the 6G network, and industry experts believe that India is well-positioned to take the lead in this new technology.
At the 7th edition of the India Mobile Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that India is not only expanding the 5G network in the country but will also take the lead in 6G. To achieve this goal, industry experts believe that youngsters in India need to create applications that integrate with 6G networks.
India's Progress in 5G and 6G

India has made significant strides in the policy and regulatory aspects of 5G and 6G. However, there is a need to focus on developing applications that can utilize the full potential of these technologies. S P Kocchar, Director General of the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), emphasized the importance of creating applications to derive benefits from 6G.
Challenges in 6G Development
One of the challenges in 6G development is the large amount of traffic logging into telecom networks. A few platforms contribute to a significant portion of this data consumption, and there is a debate about whether these companies should pay a revenue share for using the networks. Telecom companies argue that these platforms have thrived on network usage without contributing to its upkeep and advancement.
Collaboration Between Industry and Academia
To overcome these challenges and achieve success in 6G, collaboration between industry and academia is crucial. Ericsson Head Cloud Software and Services Ludvig Landgren highlighted the transformative impact of 5G in terms of network rollout and affordability. He emphasized the remarkable progress made in India through collaboration between the industry and academia, resulting in 100 million 5G subscribers within a year.
India has the potential to become a leader in 6G technology. To achieve this goal, it is essential for young minds to come forward and create innovative applications that leverage the capabilities of 6G networks. By fostering collaboration between industry and academia, India can drive advancements in 6G technology and establish itself as a global leader in the field.
