IndiGo, a leading low-cost carrier, has expanded its network by introducing direct flights from Chennai to Durgapur, West Bengal, starting May 16. This new route aims to enhance domestic connectivity and facilitate easier travel between these two significant cities. The service will be available three times a week: on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. According to the airline's schedule, flights will depart from Chennai at 5.45 am, arriving in Durgapur at 8.25 am. The return journey will see flights leaving Durgapur at 8.55 am and landing back in Chennai at 11.25 am.

This initiative is expected to significantly benefit both cities by improving access and offering more travel options for passengers. Chennai, known as the 'Detroit of India' due to its extensive automobile industry, stands to gain enhanced domestic links. Meanwhile, Durgapur, an industrial powerhouse in the Paschim Bardhaman district of West Bengal, is recognized for its mineral wealth and educational institutions. The introduction of this route is part of IndiGo's broader strategy to connect metro cities with emerging urban centers across the country.
With the addition of this new connection, IndiGo will now operate 28 weekly flights from Durgapur to major Indian cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. This expansion is poised to offer passengers from Durgapur greater flexibility in planning their travel to other domestic and international destinations via Chennai.
Furthermore, IndiGo has announced the resumption of its operations between Chennai and Bangkok starting May 15. This move is part of the airline's efforts to strengthen regional and international connectivity, fostering new opportunities for trade and tourism. Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales at IndiGo, expressed enthusiasm about these developments, highlighting their potential to enhance accessibility and create new avenues for economic engagement.
In addition to these routes, IndiGo revealed plans for direct flights from Kolkata to Srinagar and Kolkata to Jammu as part of its summer schedule for this year. These connections further underscore the airline's commitment to expanding its network and offering more travel options to its customers.
The introduction of these flights is a strategic step by IndiGo to not only boost connectivity within India but also to link it with key international destinations. As the airline continues to expand its footprint, passengers can look forward to more convenient travel options and improved access to various regions across the globe.
