Fans and franchises have been keenly awaiting the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction 2024 which began at the Coca-Cola arena in Dubai today. In this auction, the biggest newsmakers were Australia's Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins of Australia who became the two costliest players in the history of IPL.
Prior to the IPL auction 2024, Rohit Sharma fans, former captain of Mumbai Indians were upset after Hardik Pandya replaced Sharma to lead the five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions in the next title-winning season, IPL 2024. The captaincy change sparked rumors that Rohit Sharma could join a different team and that there were rifts within the Mumbai Indians team. However, ahead of the start of the IPL 2024 auction in Dubai on Tuesday MI strongly denied the rumours saying "Rohit is not going anywhere."

"Rohit is not going anywhere, nor will any player," said a senior Mumbai Indians official to Cricbuzz on the sidelines of the mini-auction at the Coca-Cola Arena. "The news reports are totally fake and false. No MI player will be leaving us, nor will be traded by us."
Today, all eyes were on Australia's Mitchell Starc who broke all IPL auction records, going for a mind-boggling Rs 24.75 crore to Kolkata Knight Riders after a fierce bidding war. Pat Cummins of Australia became the second most costliest player in the history of IPL as he was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for a whopping Rs 20.50 crore.
Daryl Mitchell of New Zealand was another hot pick, having been sold for Rs 14 crore to CSK.
This is the first time ever that the Rs 20-crore mark was breached at the IPl auction. Three players have breached the Rs 10 crore mark.

- Rovman Powell was bought by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 7.40 crore.
- Delhi Capitals gets Harry Brook for Rs 4 crore
- Travis Head bagged by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 6.80 crore after a fierce bidding war.
- Wanindu Hasaranga bought by SRH for Rs 1.50 crore.
- Rachin Ravindra of New Zealand bagged by CSK at Rs 1.80 crore
- Gujarat Titans gets Azmatullah Omarzai for Rs 50 lakh
- Pat Cummins goes to Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 20.5 crore.
- Gerald Coetzee goes to Mumbai Indians for Rs 5 crore
- Harshal Patel is bought for Rs 11.75 crore by Punjab Kings
- Daryl Mitchell goes to Chennai Super Kings for Rs 14 crore
- Chris Woakes was bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 4.20 crore
- Tristan Stubbs sold to Delhi for Rs 50 lakh
- Wicketkeeper KS Bharat goes to KKR for Rs 50 lakh
- Alzarri Joseph goes for Rs 11.5 crore to Royal Challengers Bangalore
- Umesh Yadav goes to Gujarat Titans for Rs 5.80 crore
- Shivam Mavi sold for Rs 6.40 crore to Lucknow Super Giants
- Mitchell Starc breaks bought for Rs 24.75 crore by Kolkata Knight Riders.
Players unsold so far:
Rilee Rossouw, Australia's Steve Smith, Karun Nair, Manish Pandey, Mohammad Waqar Salamkheil, Adil Rashid, Kusal Mendis, Josh Inglis, Akeal Hosein, Tabraiz Shamsi, Ish Sodhi and Mujeeb ur Rahman remained unsold so far.
Around 333 players are under the hammer at the "mini auction" of the 2024 season of the IPL, one of the richest sports leagues globally.
Gujarat Titans have the fattest purse this time at Rs 38.15 crore. Lucknow Super Giants' Lucknow Super Giants' purse is the smallest at Rs 13.15.
