Rishab Shetty's period folk drama Kantara Chapter 1 has achieved a remarkable global milestone. The film has officially become the highest-grossing film in the world this week, surpassing major international releases, including those featuring Taylor Swift and Leonardo DiCaprio. This milestone was reached within just seven days of release, marking a powerful debut for this blockbuster.

The film has grossed an estimated Rs 379 crore in India, with an additional Rs 67 crore coming from overseas markets. This brings its total worldwide collection to Rs 446 crore, or approximately $53 million as per India Today report. This extraordinary performance has made Kantara Chapter 1 the highest-grossing film globally during its opening week, a significant feat considering the dominance of large-scale Hollywood productions.

By achieving this, Kantara Chapter 1 has topped the global box office chart for the week, outperforming Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, which made around $50 million, Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another, which grossed $40 million and the re-released Avatar: The Way of Water, which earned under $10 million in the same period.

On Day 8 ( Thursday), Kantara Chapter 1 is estimated to have collected Rs 20.50 crore across all languages. With this, the film's India net box office total reached Rs 334.94 crore in just eight days as per Sacnilk report.
On its opening day (last Thursday), Kantara Chapter 1 collected Rs 61.85 crore across all languages. While the Kannada version contributed Rs 19.6 crore, the Hindi version followed with Rs 18.5 crore, Telugu with Rs 13 crore, Tamil with Rs 5.5 crore, and Malayalam with Rs 5.25 crore.

Kantara Chapter 1 has seen varied occupancy rates across different linguistic markets. On October 9, 2025, Kannada screenings had an average occupancy of 45.69%, with night shows reaching as high as 64.56%. Telugu occupancy was at 21.42%, while the Hindi version saw 14.63%. Tamil screenings had a stronger showing with 29.67%, and Malayalam screenings reported an occupancy of 24.81%.
Regionally, Bengaluru recorded an overall Kannada occupancy of 42.75%, with Mysuru posting the highest rate at 70.25%. Smaller towns such as Shivamogga and Kundapura saw exceptional turnout, exceeding 85% occupancy. For the Telugu version, Hyderabad saw an occupancy of 23.75%, and Mahbubnagar reported an impressive 47.25%. Tamil regions also responded well, with Chennai reporting 34% and Pondicherry nearly 47%.
