In a significant move towards enhancing global employment opportunities for its youth, the Karnataka Skill Development Corporation (KSDC) has successfully facilitated overseas jobs for 94 individuals from the state in Slovakia. This initiative, as announced by the state Minister Sharan Prakash Patil, underscores Karnataka's commitment to skill development and international workforce integration.

During a send-off ceremony held on Friday, Minister Patil, who oversees skill development and livelihood, distributed flight tickets to the candidates. This gesture marked the culmination of a rigorous selection and training process that saw the first batch of candidates depart on June 5, followed by subsequent groups on June 20, June 24, and July 1.
The selected individuals, comprising BE graduates and diploma holders, have embarked on a promising career journey abroad with a starting salary of 970 Euros (approximately Rs.86,000) per month. This overseas job initiative not only opens new avenues for the youth of Karnataka but also positions the state as a significant contributor to the global skilled workforce.
Beyond Slovakia, the KSDC has been instrumental in securing employment for 37 drivers in Hungary and is actively working to facilitate job opportunities for welders in Mauritius. Efforts are also underway to meet the human resources demand from countries like Australia, Japan, Germany, Finland, Norway, and others across Europe and the Gulf. The KSDC's proactive approach is aimed at tapping into the vast pool of skilled manpower available in Karnataka.
Recognizing the importance of English communication skills in the global job market, KSDC Managing Director M Kanagavalli announced plans to introduce English language training at their skill training centres. This initiative is expected to further enhance the employability of Karnataka's youth on an international scale.
Strategic Partnerships
The recent interest from Slovakia in recruiting over two and half thousand assembly line operators from Karnataka has led to strategic discussions between the state's skill development department and the External Affairs ministry. An agreement aimed at formalizing this recruitment process is in the works, highlighting the government's commitment to creating substantial employment opportunities abroad for its citizens.
The department has already commenced the recruitment process for eligible candidates. A notable aspect of this initiative is the provision of free training for all recruited candidates at the Toyota Kirloskar unit in Bidadi, Ramanagara district. This training program, funded entirely by the department, was specifically designed for candidates from economically weaker sections who would otherwise be unable to afford the Rs 35,000 fee.
This overseas employment initiative by KSDC not only showcases Karnataka's dedication to skill development but also sets a precedent for other states to follow in empowering their youth with global job opportunities. With continued efforts towards enhancing skill sets and forging international partnerships, Karnataka is poised to make significant contributions to the global workforce.
