The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the official schedule for the Kerala Assembly Elections 2026, setting the stage for a crucial political contest that will determine who governs "God's Own Country" for the next five years. With the dates now confirmed, the Left Democratic Front (LDF), United Democratic Front (UDF), and the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) have intensified their efforts to secure voter support.

Kerala Assembly Election 2026: Full Schedule
The poll panel, comprising Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar along with Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, outlined a detailed election timeline. The last date for filing nominations is March 23, followed by scrutiny on March 24. Candidates can withdraw their nominations until March 26.
Voting for the Kerala Assembly election will take place in a single phase on April 9, 2026, across all 140 constituencies in the state. A total of 30,471 polling stations will be set up across the state. Authorities are currently finalising electoral rolls, preparing polling infrastructure, and deploying security personnel to ensure a smooth and secure voting process.
The counting of votes is scheduled for March 4, while the current Assembly's term will conclude on May 23, 2026.
Kerala Assembly Election 2026: Voter Details And Polling Arrangements
Following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), the final electoral roll was published on February 21. Kerala has a total of 2,71,06,059 registered voters, including 2,70,52,007 general electors and 54,052 service electors. Among them, 4,24,518 voters fall in the 18-19 age group, 2,04,317 are above 85 years, and 2,44,250 are persons with disabilities. Women voters account for 1.38 crore, men for 1.31 crore, and 277 voters are registered under the transgender category.
Out of the total polling stations, 6,130 are located in urban areas, while 24,341 are in rural regions. To reduce overcrowding, the ECI has capped the number of voters per booth at 1,200, with the average number of electors per polling station standing at 885.
Additionally, Kerala will feature 790 'model' polling stations, 397 booths managed entirely by women officials, and 31 managed by persons with disabilities. Webcasting facilities will be available at all polling stations to enhance transparency.
Kerala Assembly Election 2026: Constituencies
Of the 140 Assembly constituencies, 14 are reserved for Scheduled Castes and two for Scheduled Tribes. A party or coalition needs at least 71 seats to form the government.
As the political contest intensifies, both the LDF and UDF are working to address internal challenges and counter allegations, while the NDA is aiming to expand its presence in the state. Several constituencies are expected to play a decisive role due to their political significance and the presence of high-profile candidates.
Key constituencies to watch include:
•Thiruvananthapuram
•Dharmadam
•Palakkad
•Wayanad
•Ernakulam
•Thrissur
•Kozhikode North
•Kannur
•Malappuram
•Kottayam
These constituencies often influence the overall electoral outcome and are known for closely fought contests between major political players.
