Maharashtra's Latur district is advancing in various sectors, with the BJP-led Mahayuti government dedicated to its comprehensive development, according to state minister Shivendrasinhraje Bhosale. Bhosale, who oversees the PWD excluding public enterprises and serves as Latur's guardian minister, highlighted several ambitious schemes under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and deputies Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar. He spoke after a flag hoisting ceremony at the District Sports Complex on Maharashtra's 66th Foundation Day.

A modern district hospital will soon be established in Latur, addressing a long-standing issue. Advanced cardiac and neurological facilities have already started at Vilasrao Deshmukh Government Medical College and Hospital. Additionally, primary health centres in rural areas are being enhanced, Bhosale stated. To ensure swift assistance reaches those in need, Chief Minister Assistance Cells Mukhyamantri Sahayata Nidhi Kaksha are being set up in every district.
Development Initiatives in Latur
These cells aim to simplify the application process, documentation, and follow-ups for government aid, especially benefiting the poor, disabled, critically ill patients, and disaster-affected families. A significant number of Scheduled Castes students have benefited from the Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Swadhar Yojana, noted the BJP minister. Under MGNREGA, a fruit orchard plantation scheme is being implemented to promote horticulture.
New irrigation projects and water conservation initiatives under the Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyan are underway in central Maharashtra. Campaigns like desilting dams, using silt in fields, and the Amrutdhara water initiative are progressing. To tackle potential water scarcity, an action plan worth Rs 17.70 crore for rural areas and Rs 3.16 crore for urban settlements has been approved, the minister noted.
Industrial Growth and Connectivity
Latur is experiencing a new phase of industrial growth and investment. Multiple agreements were signed with industrial groups during District Investment Council meetings, creating local employment opportunities for youth, Bhosale said. The development of Latur airport is being expedited to enhance connectivity, he maintained.
Latur district actively participated in the 100-day action plan envisioned by Chief Minister Fadnavis, accelerating developmental works and resolving people's grievances. The minister paid heartfelt tributes to those who lost their lives in the terrorist attack in Pahalgam town of Jammu and Kashmir on April 22 and offered condolences to their families.
The district's progress across sectors reflects a commitment to holistic development under the guidance of state leadership. With ongoing initiatives in health care, water conservation, industrial growth, and infrastructure development, Latur is poised for significant advancement.
