Life Insurance Corporation (LIC), India's largest life insurer, marked a significant milestone by surpassing the Rs 1,000 per share mark for the first time, reaching an all-time high of Rs 1,028 per share, exhibiting a gain of 8.8% in the current trading session.
This achievement comes on the back of a remarkable performance in recent months, with LIC shares experiencing a turnaround in November, culminating in a substantial 12.83% gain. The positive trend continued in December and January, with a remarkable rise of 22.52% and 14%, respectively, leading the company's shares to surpass the IPO price of Rs 949 per share on January 23.

Since then, LIC's stock has maintained its upward momentum, consistently reaching new record highs. Early investors who retained their positions since the listing are now reaping the rewards of this sustained surge.
LIC, which was listed on Indian stock exchanges on May 17, 2022, at Rs 875.25 per share compared to the issue price of Rs 949 per share, has now surged to a new all-time high, propelling its market capitalization to Rs 6.50 lakh crore. This accomplishment solidifies LIC's position as the sixth-largest listed company in India and the leading among government-listed PSU companies.
In December, the government granted LIC a one-time exemption to achieve the required 25% minimum public shareholding (MPS) within 10 years, extending the deadline from the original target of 2027. The government currently holds a 96.5% stake in the company as of the end of Q3 FY24, while retail investors and domestic institutional investors hold 2.4% and 1% stake, respectively.
As of the latest trading session, LIC shares were seen trading with gains of more than 6% at Rs 1,003.80 per share on the National Stock Exchange (NSE), further emphasizing the robust demand and positive sentiment surrounding the company's stock.
This surge in LIC's share price not only reflects investor confidence but also underscores the success of the company's strategic moves and its ability to adapt to changing market dynamics. The insurance giant's foray into the stock market has proven to be a rewarding venture for investors, particularly those who recognise the long-term potential of the stock.
Market analysts are optimistic about LIC's future trajectory, citing its strong fundamentals, expansive reach, and broader economic recovery as key drivers for sustained growth. As LIC continues to dominate the insurance landscape.
