Cosmetic major Loreal India's sales are almost touching a Rs 5,000 crore mark in FY23, according to the data accessed by business intelligence platform Tofler. The company's total income for the financial year that ended on March 31, 2023, was Rs 4,993.61 crore, the highest in the last five years. In comparison, it had reported Rs 3,738.69 crore in FY22 and Rs 2,858.37 crore in FY21. In the pre-pandemic FY20, the company's total income stood at Rs 3,461.41 crore, while in FY19 it was at Rs 3,274.44 crore.
Increased Advertising and Promotional Expenses

One of the key factors contributing to Loreal India's impressive sales growth in FY23 was its increased advertising and promotional expenses. The company's advertising and promotional expenses in FY23 were up 50.6 percent to Rs 1,385.7 crore, compared to Rs 919.7 crore in the previous year. This increase in advertising and promotional activities helped Loreal India to strengthen its brand presence and reach a wider customer base.
Strong Growth in Net Profit and Revenue
Loreal India's net profit also saw a significant increase of 16.8 percent to Rs 488.3 crore in FY23, compared to Rs 418.1 crore in FY22. The company's revenue from operations also grew by 33.23 percent to Rs 4,952.5 crore, compared to Rs 3,717.1 crore in the previous year. This strong growth in net profit and revenue reflects the company's robust performance in the Indian market.
Other Income and Total Expenses
In addition to its strong sales growth, Loreal India's other income also saw a significant increase of 83.8 percent to Rs 41 crore in FY23, compared to Rs 22 crore in FY22. The company's total expenses, however, also grew by 34 percent to Rs 4,309.18 crore, compared to Rs 3,215.93 crore in the previous year. The increase in expenses was primarily driven by higher advertising and promotional costs, as well as increased raw material and operating costs.
L'Oreal India's Presence in India
L'Oréal India has been present in the country as a wholly-owned subsidiary of L'Oréal S.A. since 1994. The company operates in India with 13 brands, including popular names like L'Oréal Paris, Garnier, Maybelline, and Nykaa. With its strong brand portfolio and extensive distribution network, Loreal India has been able to tap into the growing demand for cosmetics and beauty care products in the country.
Loreal India's impressive sales growth in FY23 reflects the company's strong performance in the Indian market. With its increased advertising and promotional activities, robust product portfolio, and wide distribution network, Loreal India is well-positioned to continue its growth trajectory in the coming years. The company's focus on innovation and new product launches will also help it to stay ahead of the competition and maintain its position as a leading player in the Indian cosmetics and beauty care industry.
