Who will be Maharashtra's new CM? It is a question whose answer every citizen in India's largest state is looking forward to. After a landslide win in Maharashtra's assembly election 2024, the Mahayuti party has three potential candidates at the forefront for the CM seat. Among the three candidates, Devendra Fadnavis has taken the CM seat two times, once as a full-time and one time as a deputy. Did you know, that Fadnavis is a stock market enthusiast, holding about 49 stocks and units, while he has invested in about 7 mutual funds?
Ahead of the formation of the Maharashtra government in 2024, let's have a look of the key investments made by Fadnavis so far in the Indian stock market.

As per the affidavit submitted by Fadnavis, he holds a total of 49 shares and units in Indian market worth up to Rs 43,656,553.28 (approximately Rs 4.3657 crore). His highest investment is in Axis Bank, Reliance Industries, Tata Consultancy Services, Federal Bank, and Tamilnad Mercantile Bank. Here's how much he holds in these stocks and how they have performed.
Axis Bank Share Price:
Fadnavis holds 8,400 shares of Axis Bank worth Rs 9,702,840, while he holds another batch of 7,500 shares in Axis Bank for Rs 8,663,250.
Axis Bank currently trades above the Rs 1,135 level and its all-time gain is about 33,297.06%. By end of November 28, Axis Bank market cap is at Rs 3,50,434.78 crore. This lender was at Rs 3.16 apiece on December 11, 1998.
Reliance Industries Share Price:
Reliance is India's largest company in terms of market share and is currently trading around Rs 1,275 levels, while its all-time gain is about 11,322.80%. Recently, Reliance carried its 1:1 bonus issue ratio, and chances are that Fadnavis is among the top gainers of this reward.
He holds 959 equity shares in Reliance Industries worth Rs 2,576,545.30. Reliance has a market cap of Rs 17,20,438.23 crore. Once upon a time, Reliance stock was at Rs 11.14 apiece level on 14 July, 1995.
3. Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Share Price:
In this bank, Fadnavis holds about 3300 equity shares worth Rs 1,424,940. Currently, the stock is near Rs 475, however, its all-time performance is down by 4% as of now.
It needs to be noted that these gains and losses are not of Devendra Fadnavis, but merely all-time performance of the stocks.
Not just these stocks, Fadnavis also holds a significant amount of PSU stocks of diverse sectors such as oil and gas, power, metals and mining, and energy.
GAIL (India): He has about 1200 shares worth Rs 254.556 in this natural gas giant with Maharatna status.
NTPC: He has 770 shares of NTPC and his holding values are about Rs 320,127.50. This is also another Maharatna company.
Power Grid Corporation: Here, Fadnavis holds about 1777 equity shares and his holding is valued at about Rs 573,526.75.
Coal India: Here, Fadnavis holds 199 equity shares and his holding is worth Rs 98,405.50 at the time of filing the affidavit. Also, a Maharatna company!
Other PSU stocks are ONGC, Petronet LNT, Bank of Baroda, and PNB among others.
On Thursday, November 28, 2024, as per reports, the potential candidates aka Eknath Shinde, Fadnavis, and Ajit Pawar are likely to meet Amit Shah in Delhi for the matter.
Among the three, Fadnavis first became chief minister of Maharashtra during the tenure of 2014-2019. Although, he was a potential second full-time CM candidate during the assembly election of 2019, faced pulled back after no party could manage to form the government for several months, leading to a President's rule in the state.
On 23 November 2019, Devendra Fadnavis was sworn in as the Chief Minister and Ajit Pawar was sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister. However, both resigned on 26 November 2019 before the floor test and on 28 November 2019, Shiv Sena, NCP, and Congress formed the government under a new alliance Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), with Uddhav Thackeray as the Chief Minister, as per Wikipedia. The Uddhav Thackeray government was pushed to resign after a faction of MLAs led by Eknath Shinde split from Shiv Sena and joined hands with the BJP. This led to the formation of a new government in the mid-term with Eknath Shinde sworn as Chief Minister and Devendra Fadnavis as the deputy Chief minister, and later joined with Ajit Pawar as the deputy CM as well.
Once again Fadnavis is competing against Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar for the CM seat.
The trio is part of the Mahayuti party, a coalition of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiv Sena (2022-Present; SHS) and Nationalist Congress Party - along with smaller partners such as Republican Party of India (Athawale), Rashtriya Samaj Paksha and many others.
