Hailing Gujarat's culture and spirit of enterprise and eulogising Maharashtra's history of courage, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended greetings to the neighbouring Indian states on their 'Statehood Day'.
Wishing people a 'Happy Maharashtra Day' in Marathi on social media platform X, PM Modi called the state a "strong pillar of progress" and praised it for remaining "connected to roots." In another post, he greeted people on "Gujarat Day" and mentioned how the state's natives have "excelled in various fields."

Maharashtra Day: PM Modi Extends Wishes In Marathi
PM Modi sent his "best wishes to the people of Maharashtra" on its Statehood Day. "When one thinks of Maharashtra, its glorious history and the courage of the people come to our mind. The state remains a strong pillar of progress and at the same time has remained connected to its roots. My best wishes for the state's progress," read a post by PM Modi on X.
Maharashtra Day is celebrated annually on May 1st and commemorate the formation of the state in 1960. The occasion is symbol of the state's identity and cultural pride.
It is a government holiday in Maharashtra, and all the government offices, banks are closed on the occasion. Additionally, the Indian stock market exchanges are also shut on the day.
Gujarat Day: PM Modi Sends Wishes On The Occasion
Sending wishes of the occasion, PM Modi urged people to attain new heights and progress. "On the proud occasion of their Statehood Day, my best wishes to the people of Gujarat. The state has distinguished itself for its culture, spirit of enterprise and dynamism. The people of Gujarat have excelled in various fields. May the state keep attaining new heights of progress," read a post by PM Modi on X.
Gujarat Day is celebrated every year after the state was formed through the Bombay Reorganisation Act, 1960. Since then, the statehood foundation day is celebrated with great enthusiasm and zeal.
The statehood day is a commitment and reaffirmation of the people of both the states to progress and prosperity and the significance of their cultural identity. The day also serves as a reminder to the contribution of the people whose efforts made the formation of Gujarat and Maharashtra a reality and to those who worked tirelessly to build a brighter future for themselves and generations to come.
Maharashtra and Gujarat Statehood Day also coincides with Labour Day, which is celebrated every year on May 1. The day marks the struggle and immense contribution of workers in nation-building and the progress of society. The International Labour Day also acknowledges the the labour movement's and their fight for fair conditions and decent pay.
