Chief Minister Eknath Shinde inaugurated Maharashtra's first semiconductor manufacturing facility in Navi Mumbai. He described this as a significant step for the state. Speaking at the event, Shinde highlighted Maharashtra's industry-friendly environment and the vital role of semiconductor chips in daily life. The project, developed by RRP Electronics at Mahape, will proceed in two phases.

Semiconductor Manufacturing Facility
The semiconductor unit has attracted investments exceeding Rs 36,000 crore. Products from this facility are expected to be available by 2026. Shinde addressed opposition claims about industries leaving Maharashtra, stating that industries don't move overnight. He blamed previous governments for not supporting industries, which led them to consider other locations.
Shinde emphasised the importance of semiconductor chips as essential components in modern technology. He believes this unit will significantly enhance Maharashtra's technological capabilities. The chief minister also mentioned the successful implementation of the Ladki Bahin scheme, highlighting simultaneous progress in industrial growth and infrastructure development.
Government Initiatives and Support
According to Shinde, over 70% of MoUs signed at the Davos meet have been executed. He stated that Maharashtra is now an industry-friendly state with growing employment opportunities due to new industries. The government is committed to fostering a business-friendly environment by offering subsidies and single-window clearances to industrialists.
Shinde cited a Niti Aayog report on the Mumbai Metropolitan Region's potential economic contribution. He described Maharashtra as India's growth engine. The semiconductor sector is crucial to various government initiatives, including recent financial support under the Mukhyamantri Mazi Ladki Bahin scheme.
Support from Prominent Figures
The chief minister noted that 21,000 startups are currently operational in Maharashtra. He expressed commitment to delivering results ahead of schedule. Shinde praised cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and Padma Vibhushan Anil Kakodkar for their support of the semiconductor initiative. "One does not know when he Sachin Tendulkar came from pitch to chip," he quipped.
Maharashtra's government remains dedicated to creating a supportive environment for businesses. With strategic initiatives and investments in place, the state aims to strengthen its position as a leader in technological advancements and economic growth.
