A proposed solar panel project initially planned for Nagpur, Maharashtra, has reportedly been relocated to Gujarat. This claim was made by Vijay Wadettiwar, the Leader of Opposition in the assembly from the Congress party. Wadettiwar stated that this project could have attracted an investment of Rs 18,000 crore to Maharashtra. He attributed the project's relocation to political and bureaucratic negligence.

Wadettiwar highlighted that this is the third major industrial project, following Vedanta-Foxconn and Tata-Airbus, to move from Maharashtra to Gujarat. He alleged that leaders in the ruling coalition were preoccupied with making divisive remarks instead of focusing on industrial growth. According to him, industries are struggling to operate in Maharashtra due to these distractions.
Political Allegations and Rebuttals
State Industries Minister Uday Samant dismissed Wadettiwar's allegations. Samant accused the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), which includes Congress, of spreading false information. He emphasized that a prominent renewable energy company plans to expand its operations in Maharashtra, contradicting claims of projects moving out of the state.
Samant referred to a statement from ReNew, a leading renewable energy firm, which clarified its commitment to Maharashtra. The company plans to increase its electricity supply capacity from 550 MW to 2,000 MW within the state. ReNew also intends to invest Rs 1 lakh crore and create 30,000 jobs in Maharashtra.
Investment Plans in Maharashtra
The renewable energy company has expressed its intention to invest in the upstream chain of solar manufacturing within Maharashtra. It has denied any plans to invest in similar projects in Gujarat or other states. This statement aims to reassure stakeholders about the company's commitment to Maharashtra's industrial development.
The ongoing debate highlights the political tensions between ruling and opposition parties regarding industrial projects. While Wadettiwar criticizes the ruling coalition for losing significant investments, Samant counters with evidence of ongoing commitments from major companies.
The situation underscores the importance of political stability and effective governance in attracting and retaining large-scale investments. As both sides present their arguments, stakeholders await further developments regarding industrial growth in Maharashtra.
