Investors will likely pay close attention to Maharatna Coal India and Navratna Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL), two public sector undertakings (PSUs), since their record and ex-dividend dates are slated for August 21, 2025. Given the solid track record of PSUs as reliable dividend payers, dividend-oriented investors would be interested in the announcements of Rs 5.15 per share for Coal India and Rs 1.72 per share for RVNL. Investors frequently purchase shares to be eligible for the dividend distribution as the ex-date draws near, causing a brief spike in trading activity. If considering which stock to buy between Coal India and RVNL, let's look at the trade outlook below.

Coal India Dividend
"Board of Directors of Coal India Limited at their meeting held on 7th May 2025 inter-alia, has recommended the payment of Final Dividend @ 5.15/-per equity share having face value of Rs. 10/- each for the FY 2024-25 subject to the approval of the shareholders at the 51st AGM of Coal India Limited. The dividend, as declared by the Board will be paid to shareholders holding equity shares of the Company, either in electronic or in physical form as on Thursday, 21st Aug 2025, i.e, Record Date," said Coal India in a stock exchange filing.
Coal India Share Price Target
"Coal India has maintained strength near all-time highs, supported by consistent demand outlook and robust price action. The ₹370-375 zone offers immediate support, while ₹355 acts as a strong stop-loss for positional trades. A sustained move above ₹390 could push the stock toward ₹410-₹420. Momentum indicators remain favorable, showing strong underlying strength. With higher dividend yield and sector tailwinds, the stock continues to offer a solid risk-reward profile in the medium term," commented Riyank Arora, technical analyst at Mehta Equities Ltd.
Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL) Dividend
"The Board had recommended a Final Dividend of Rs. 1.72/- per equity share in its 148th Board Meeting held on May 21, 2025. The dividend, once approved by the members in the ensuing AGM will be paid within a period of 30 days from the date of approval, to the members or their mandates whose names appear in the Register of Members of the Company on Thursday, 21st August, 2025 in respect of physical shares," RVNL mentioned in its FY25 annual report.
RVNL Target Price
"Rail Vikas Nigam remains in a firm uptrend, holding above crucial supports at ₹310 and ₹300. The stock has seen healthy consolidation, indicating strength before the next leg of the rally. A breakout beyond ₹335 could unlock targets of ₹355-₹370 in the short term. RSI and momentum oscillators suggest buying interest at every dip. With strong order book visibility and government push in infrastructure, the overall outlook remains bullish," commented Riyank Arora, technical analyst at Mehta Equities Ltd.
