In a significant move within the immersive technology sector, MAI Labs, an innovative start-up, has announced its anticipation to secure a USD 50 million fundraise by September, aiming for a valuation of half a billion dollars. This ambitious financial goal underscores the company's commitment to advancing immersive technology platforms, including the development of a virtual reality headset and intellectual property rights protection for content creators.

According to Tapan Sangal, Founder of MAI Labs, the company has already raised USD 17.5 million at a valuation of USD 250 million, providing them with a financial runway of approximately 1.5 years. The forthcoming USD 50 million funding round is expected to bolster the company's capacity to launch its innovative products and platforms.
Speaking at the launch of MayaaVerse, an immersive tech platform, Sangal highlighted the strategic partnerships with Zee Media and TV Tokyo to adapt their content for MayaaVerse. He emphasized the significant investments required for the headset business, with plans to launch the devices by December at a price point of USD 700 each.
The company is not only focusing on hardware but also on software solutions to empower content creators. An app is set to be launched in 30 days that will facilitate the conversion of traditional content into immersive formats. Additionally, MAI Labs is exploring collaborations with social media platforms to integrate them into MayaaVerse, indicating a future where mobile cameras equipped with depth sensors could democratize the creation of immersive content.
MAI Labs has also engaged in proof of concept activities with Ericsson, showcasing immersive content as a pivotal application for future 5G and 6G technologies. Ashish Minocha, MayaaVerse Chief Business Officer at MAI Labs, shared insights into the development of a device-agnostic full technology stack for immersive content. The company is in the final stages of selecting a vendor for its VR headset and is keen on manufacturing these devices in India.
With around 200 employees, over 90 percent of whom are based in India, MAI Labs is positioning itself as a key player in the immersive technology landscape. The company's efforts to develop and launch an immersive technology platform are indicative of its vision to lead in this innovative field.
