In one of the recent updates the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced significant updates to UPI Lite, enhancing its functionality for users. The UPI Lite wallet limit has been increased to Rs. 5,000, and the per-transaction limit has been raised to Rs. 1,000 in an effort to make UPI Lite an even more attractive option for everyday payments.
What Are the Changes in UPI Lite?
Previously, users could only load up to Rs. 2,000 in their UPI Lite wallet. However, this limit has now been raised to Rs. 5,000, allowing users to carry a larger balance and perform more transactions without the need to reload their wallet frequently. Also, this will help people staying the area of low connectivity to a seamless payment without teh use of internet and without entering the UPI PIN.

Another key update is the increase in the per-transaction limit for UPI Lite. Earlier, users were restricted to making payments of up to Rs. 500 per transaction. Now, this limit has been raised to Rs. 1,000, doubling the value of transactions that can be processed using UPI Lite.
Impact of These Changes:
This new upgrade is expected to make UPI Lite more practical for regular use, especially for those making frequent low-value payments. UPI Lite is a more viable option for a wider range of small transactions, such as grocery shopping, transportation, and other daily expenses, which may sometimes exceed Rs. 500. The raised transaction limit will make sure that UPI Lite can handle a broader range of purchases that will encourage people to use digital mode transactions in place of cash or other payment methods.
What is UPI Lite and How To Set It Up
UPI Lite is a simplified version of the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) designed for small-value transactions. Unlike regular UPI payments, UPI Lite transactions do not require users to input a UPI PIN, making the payment process quicker and more user-friendly.
Step-by-Step Guide to Set Up UPI Lite
Step 1: UPI LITE can be enabled on any UPI app like Google Pay, Paytm, PhonePe, or your bank's app.
Step 2: Log in to your UPI app using your registered mobile number or credentials.

Step 5: Next Add Funds to Your UPI Lite Wallet and confirm the transfer using your regular UPI PIN.
Step 7: Once set up, UPI Lite is ready for use to make small-value transactions (up to Rs. 1,000 per transaction) without entering your UPI PIN.
