MoRTH: Validity of DL, RC & Permits Extended Till September 30, 2021

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) on Thursday lengthened the validity of motor vehicle papers such as driving licence (DL), registration certificate (RC), and permits until September 30, 2021, in light of the continuing COVID-19 epidemic. According to the Ministry, regulatory bodies have been instructed that the legitimacy of fitness, permit (all sorts), licence, registration, or any other relevant document(s) may be considered legitimate until September 30, 2021.

On its Twitter handle MORTHINDIA (@MORTHIndia has recently stated that "Taking into consideration the need to prevent the spread of COVID-19, MoRT&H has advised the Enforcement Authorities that the validity of Fitness, Permit (all types), License, Registration or any other concerned document(s) may be treated to be valid till 30th Sept, 2021, the same may be treated to be valid till 30th September, 2021. Enforcement authorities are advised to treat such documents valid till 30th September 2021. This will facilitate citizens in availing transport-related services."

According to the Ministry's guidance, all states and union territories are urged to follow the directive so that residents, transporters, and other organisations working during this tough period are not persecuted or suffer challenges. The ministry has also stated on its directive that "It was advised that in case of Fitness, Permit (All types), Driving License, Registration or any other concerned document(s) whose extension of validity could not or was not likely be granted due to lock-down and which had expired since 1st of Feb 2020, or would expire by 30th of June 2021, the same may be treated to be valid till 30th of June 2021. Enforcement authorities were advised to treat such documents valid till 30th of June 2021."
