In a startling incident emerging from Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, a university student found himself entangled in a financial fraud that led to him receiving an Income Tax notice for transactions amounting to over Rs 40 crore. The student, identified as Pramod Dandotiya from Jiwaji University, was unknowingly made the face of a company that not only conducted these hefty transactions but also evaded Goods and Services Tax (GST).

The fraudulent activities came to light when Dandotiya received the notice from the Income Tax Department, prompting him to approach the police for assistance. According to Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shiyaz KM, the complaint detailed how Dandotiya's Permanent Account Number (PAN) was misused to carry out transactions exceeding Rs 40 crore. The authorities have advised Dandotiya to re-submit his complaint along with all relevant documents and notices for further investigation.
Dandotiya, who is pursuing postgraduate studies, recounted his ordeal, stating that he first became aware of the issue on January 27 when he received the IT notice concerning transactions worth Rs 46 crore. Upon contacting the Income Tax and GST departments, he discovered that a firm had been registered under his name in Delhi and Pune, conducting these transactions without his knowledge or consent. Following advice from IT officials, Dandotiya has taken steps to register a police case against the unidentified individuals behind this scam.
This case highlights the growing concern over identity theft and financial fraud, underscoring the importance of vigilance in protecting personal information. The investigation is ongoing, and further steps will be determined based on its outcome.
