Amidst growing concerns over illegal taxation and intimidation by Naga underground groups, the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) has announced an indefinite shutdown of all shops and business establishments in Dimapur district, Nagaland, starting Friday. Dimapur, known as the commercial heart of Nagaland, faces a critical juncture as businesses grapple with multiple taxation and threats from Naga Political Groups (NPGs).

The DCCI's decision comes in response to the relentless financial demands and coercive tactics employed by these groups, which include imposing their own maximum retail price (MRP) stickers and planting illegal substances to extort money. This has not only put the local business community under severe strain but also prompted many to relocate their operations to Assam, where costs are significantly lower.
In a statement, the DCCI expressed its frustration over the lack of effective measures to curb these activities and called on the state government and law enforcement agencies for immediate intervention. The indefinite shutdown is seen as a last resort to draw attention to their plight and seek redressal for the ongoing issues.
The chamber also appealed to civil society organizations and the general public for understanding and support during this period of shutdown, emphasizing the move as necessary for the welfare of all citizens. The situation has also garnered solidarity from the Kohima Chamber of Commerce & Industries, which will observe a day-long shutdown in unity with the DCCI's cause.
Support has also poured in from various district chambers of commerce, youth bodies, and civil societies, highlighting the widespread concern over the impact of illegal taxation on Nagaland's business environment. The collective stand against these practices underscores a growing demand for a secure and conducive business climate in the region.
