Big news coming for households across Karnataka, as the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has increased the price of Nandini Ghee by Rs 90 per kilogram, taking the retail price from Rs 610 to Rs 700 per kg, effective from today, November 5th. The sharp hike in Nandini ghee price is adding a fresh burden on consumers despite recent GST rate reductions on dairy products.

Nandini Ghee Becomes Costlier from Today
The new Nandini ghee price in Karnataka now costs Rs 700 per kg, jumping nearly 15% from the previous rate of Rs 610. Smaller packs have also seen proportional increases; the 50 ml pouch now costs Rs 47 as per the revised KMF price list. The increase is applicable across the state and affects all KMF retail and cooperative outlets.
KMF, Karnataka's state-run dairy cooperative, markets Nandini as its flagship brand, known for milk, butter, curd, paneer, and ghee. The latest price adjustment has disappointed consumers who had only recently benefited from the GST rate cut on dairy products from 12% to 5%, effective September 22, 2025.
KMF Cites Rising Costs and Butter Shortage
According to KMF officials, the price hike was unavoidable due to escalating input costs and a shortage of butter and ghee nationwide.
According to a report by India Today, Bamul Chairman DK Suresh said that cooperative milk societies were facing mounting financial strain.
"We are currently producing around 95 lakh to 1 crore litres of milk daily, but we can only sell about 50 lakh litres. The government provides Rs 4 per litre as an incentive for 50 lakh litres, but we must purchase and pay the same for the rest, which results in losses," Suresh said.
He added that despite the increase, Nandini ghee remains more affordable than competing brands, many of which sell at Rs 800 to Rs 900 per kg.
Comparison with Other Brands
Even with the revised price, Nandini ghee continues to be cheaper than most national brands, which retail at higher rates across India. Popular private brands like Amul, Patanjali, and Gowardhan currently sell ghee between Rs 750 and Rs 900 per kg, depending on region and packaging.
According to reports, KMF officials say that this increase in the Nandini ghee price will help maintain the quality standards of the company.
Recent Price History
This latest price hike comes just months after Nandini ghee prices were reduced from Rs 650 to Rs 610 per kg after the GST rate revision. At that time, the state government had announced the price cut as part of consumer relief measures. The updated prices are applicable across all KMF Nandini outlets, supermarkets, and cooperative stores in Karnataka starting today.
