Karnataka's beloved Nandini milk is set to become costlier from today as the Karnataka government has announced a milk price hike, which will be effective after the presentation of the Karnataka Budget 2025, which is scheduled today. This decision comes amid increasing pressure from Dakshina Kannada milk producers (DKMUL) and dairy farmers, who have been demanding better compensation for their production costs.
Milk Price Hike in Karnataka: What Consumers Need to Know
The Karnataka milk price hike will see an increase of a minimum Rs. 5 per liter as proposed by the Karnataka Milk Federation, which will significantly impact household budgets across the state. The hike applies to all varieties of Nandini milk, which is widely consumed in Bengaluru and other parts of Karnataka.
The Karnataka government has confirmed that milk prices will soon increase, bringing changes for both consumers and dairy farmers. As per the reports from the Newsminute, Minister for Animal Husbandry K. Venkatesh announced in the Legislative Council that the milk price hike is inevitable, though the exact amount will be decided after discussions with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

The report stated that the government owes Rs 656.07 crore in subsidies to milk producers, affecting 9.04 lakh beneficiaries. Minister Venkatesh assured that the finance department has been asked to release these pending funds, and the payment will be made once cleared. Meanwhile, dairy farmers are pushing for a Rs 10 per liter increase to offset rising production costs.
However, authorities are in the final stages of discussions of the amount of the milk price hike, which will be announced in the Karnataka budget. Once a decision is reached, consumers across Karnataka, including those in Bengaluru, will see the revised prices in Nandini milk and other dairy products.
Reasons Behind the Nandini Milk Price Hike
Several factors have contributed to the looming Nandini milk price hike, including the rising production costs that the dairy farmers have been struggling with due to increasing costs of cattle feed and transportation. One of the main reasons for the milk price hike is the fluctuations in milk production and procurement prices, which have put additional pressure on dairy farming in Karnataka.
Impact on Consumers and Farmers
The Nandini milk price hike will directly affect consumers, especially in cities like Bengaluru, where milk is an essential part of daily diets. Many households, tea vendors, and sweet shops rely heavily on Nandini milk, making the price revision a significant concern.
