Navi Mumbai Airport Opening Date
The Navi Mumbai Airport expected to become operational next year in June. The UDF charges will be imposed as an interim measure till March 31, 2026 or till final determination or regular tariff, which is earlier.
The Navi Mumbai International Airport (NIMA) is operated by Navi Mumbai International Airport Limited (NMIAL), which is a joint venture between Adani Airport Holdings and CIDCO. Adani AIrports own around 74% stake in joint venture which owns and operate the Navi Mumbai Airport.
The Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is a significant greenfield project located in the heart of Navi Mumbai. According to the airport's website, Navi Mumbai International Airport's design is inspired by Lotus, India's national power.
The airport infrastructure spans around an area of 1,160 hectares and is set to be completed in five phases. Its distinctive lotus-inspired structure combines futuristic architecture with operational efficiency and cutting-edge technology.
In a major milestone in the development of Navi Mumbai Airport, the Indian Air Force's C-295 aircraft successfully landed on NMIA's South runway. This event marked a crucial step in testing the new runway and associated systems like taxiways and air traffic control to ensure they meet safety standards. The airport's development began in August 2021 and aims for an early 2025 opening.
In November 2024, NMIAL collaborated with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to conduct flight calibration of its Instrument Landing System (ILS). This achievement is vital for preparing the instrument approach procedure necessary for licensing and operational readiness.
NMIA's construction team achieved several milestones by March 2024 to make the runway ready for ILS calibration before monsoon onset. They completed impacted runway portions along with DVOR structure developments. Parallel Taxiway and main pavement work were also finished with top asphalt layers.
About Navi Mumbai Airport Infrastructure
The airport will feature four passenger terminals, cargo infrastructure, a Central Terminal Complex (CTC), a General Aviation Terminal, and Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) services. In its initial phase, NMIA will accommodate 20 million passengers annually and handle 0.5 million metric tons of cargo.
In September 2024, NMIAL signed an agreement with Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) to supply Piped Natural Gas (PNG) at the airport for various operations. MGL will provide approximately 2,300 kg of natural gas daily across multiple facilities at NMIA.
