The Navi Mumbai Metro, which began operations in November 2023, has achieved a notable milestone by securing three internationally recognised ISO certifications. These certifications, awarded for quality, environment, and safety standards, highlight the metro's commitment to excellence. The Maharashtra government's planning agency, CIDCO, announced this achievement on Monday.

ISO Certifications for Quality and Safety
Operated by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (Maha Metro), the metro received ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certifications within its first year. These certifications validate the metro's dedication to maintaining high standards in quality management, environmental responsibility, and occupational health and safety. CIDCO implemented the project and emphasised the importance of these achievements.
The British Standards Institution (BSI) awarded these certifications through Maha Metro. This accomplishment makes Navi Mumbai Metro the only metro line in Maharashtra to receive all three ISO certifications so quickly. Shantanu Goel, Joint Managing Director of CIDCO, accepted the certificates on behalf of the organisation.
CIDCO's Commitment to Urban Development
Vijay Singhal, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of CIDCO, stated that this achievement underscores CIDCO's dedication to providing world-class metro services while prioritising quality, sustainability, and safety. A CIDCO spokesperson added that these certifications reinforce their commitment to modernising urban mobility and setting a global standard for excellence in metro rail services.
The Navi Mumbai Metro's first phase covers an 11-km-long corridor from Belapur to Pendhar. This corridor connects key areas such as Belapur CBD, Taloja MIDC, and CIDCO’s housing complexes in Kharghar. Services on this route commenced on November 17 last year.
CIDCO's efforts contribute significantly to Navi Mumbai's transformation into a smart city with advanced infrastructure. This milestone marks a decisive step towards enhancing urban mobility and establishing a benchmark for metro rail services globally.
