The National Buildings Construction Corporation plans to initiate RERA-approved housing projects in Jammu and Kashmir, enhancing the region's real estate sector. Discussions with government agencies are ongoing to secure land for these developments.
The National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) is expected to manage RERA-approved housing and real estate projects in Jammu and Kashmir, according to Satish Chandra, the chairperson of the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) in the region. This announcement was made during a panel discussion on RERA reforms at the National Urban and Real Estate Development Conclave-2026 in Delhi.

Chandra highlighted that RERA in Jammu and Kashmir is collaborating with various government bodies to secure approvals for real estate projects in Jammu and Srinagar. Suitable land parcels are currently being identified for these developments. The NBCC plans to engage in constructing housing projects on government land once all necessary arrangements are finalised, marking a significant step for organised real estate in the Union territory.
Real Estate Development Plans
Jammu and Kashmir have set ambitious goals for its real estate sector, with ongoing consultations involving stakeholders like developers and potential homebuyers. Chandra noted that while there is sufficient demand and purchasing power, supply limitations have hindered growth, which RERA aims to resolve. He mentioned that RERA has been provided office space in both Srinagar and Jammu to facilitate smoother approval processes.
Currently, five projects are registered with RERA, and there is increasing interest among developers to pursue projects under this framework. Chandra stated, "There is adequate demand and purchasing capacity, but supply constraints have limited growth so far, which RERA aims to address." This growing enthusiasm indicates a positive outlook for the region's real estate sector.
The NBCC's involvement is anticipated to boost the development of housing projects significantly. Once the modalities are settled, their participation will be a crucial advancement for the organised real estate sector in Jammu and Kashmir. This initiative aligns with the region's broader objectives to enhance its infrastructure and housing capabilities.
Chandra emphasised that discussions are underway with multiple stakeholders to ensure successful project implementation. The collaboration between RERA and government agencies aims to streamline processes and overcome existing challenges in the real estate market of Jammu and Kashmir.
This strategic move by NBCC is expected to catalyse growth in the region's housing sector. By addressing supply constraints and leveraging government land for development, it sets a promising trajectory for future real estate projects under the RERA framework.
