NCRTC Collaborates with PTC India to Secure Low-Cost Power for Namo Bharat Corridor

The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has entered into an agreement with PTC India to acquire affordable power, including green energy, through power exchanges for the Namo Bharat corridor. This initiative aims to cut down on electricity expenses by sourcing power at its receiving substations in Ghaziabad, Modipuram, Shatabdi Nagar, Muradnagar in Uttar Pradesh, and Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi.

Power Procurement Strategy

The collaboration between NCRTC and PTC India, a prominent power trading solutions provider, is crucial for the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor. This corridor, currently in phased commissioning, depends on electricity for the efficient operation of its high-speed Namo Bharat trains. Energy costs account for about 30-35% of NCRTC's operational expenses, making cost reduction a priority.

NCRTC is exploring power procurement through exchanges to lower energy costs compared to current Discom charges. PTC India will leverage its expertise in the power exchange sector to assist NCRTC in achieving this goal. The aim is to ensure a steady and cost-effective power supply while maintaining reliability.

Long-term Sustainability Goals

NCRTC Managing Director Shalabh Goel stated, "A capital-intensive project like the RRTS needs to be sustainable in the longer term. We are pleased to partner with PTC India in managing our energy needs." He emphasized NCRTC's commitment to innovative and sustainable solutions. The agreement signifies a major step towards securing reliable and economical power, including green energy, to lessen the carbon footprint.

PTC India has previously offered similar energy management services to various organisations. Their role as NCRTC's trading partner involves facilitating power procurement and managing all energy requirements. This partnership aligns with NCRTC's broader strategy of adopting innovative methods for efficient RRTS corridor operations.

Phased Implementation Plan

The phased implementation of power trading will commence with the already operational section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor. As full operations gradually expand, plans are in place to extend this approach further. This strategic move is part of NCRTC's efforts to ensure efficient and sustainable corridor management.

The agreement marks a significant milestone in NCRTC's journey towards sustainable energy management. By partnering with PTC India, NCRTC aims to secure a reliable and cost-effective power supply while reducing its environmental impact.
