Nepal Crisis: India Issues Advisory For Citizens Amid Protests, Air India Flights Cancelled

Nepal Crisis: Amid the ongoing protest in Nepal, spearheaded by Gen Z, loosely defined as those born between 1995 and 2010, the Indian government has issued an advisory for citizens travelling to the neighbouring nation. Additionally, security is heightened in the India-Nepal border and multiple flights have been cancelled to the country.

Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli tendered his resignation on Tuesday as the Gen Z-led protest continued in Nepal. The massive nationwide protest was triggered by the Nepal government's decision to ban multiple social media platforms. The decision not only resulted in sharp criticism, but also forced people to come on roads for long-pending issues like corruption, unemployment, economic slowdown, etc.

MEA Issues Advisory

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), on Tuesday, issued advisory for its citizens and advised them to avoid travelling to Nepal amid the ongoing crisis. Indian citizens in Nepal have been urged to immediately contact the embassy in Kathmandu and to take shelter in their current places of residence.

"In view of the developing situation in Nepal, Indian citizens are advised to defer travel there until the situation has stabilised. Indian citizens presently in Nepal are advised to shelter in their current places of residence, avoid going out onto the streets and exercise all due caution. They are also advised to follow local safety advisories from Nepal authorities as well as the Embassy of India in Kathmandu," read a press release by MEA.

Nepal Crisis: Air India, IndiGo Flights Cancelled

Air India on Tuesday cancelled four flights between Delhi and Kathmandu amid massive anti-government protests in the neighbouring nation. IndiGo and Nepal Airlines also cancelled their flights from the national capital to Kathmandu on Tuesday as the Tribhuvan International Airport in Nepal's capital has been temporarily closed, reported PTI.

One of the flights of Air India returned to the national capital on Tuesday as smoke was noticed at the Kathmandu airport during final approach of the aircraft, reported PTI citing sources.

"In view of the current situation prevailing in Kathmandu, the following flights AI2231/2232, AI2219/2220, AI217/218 and AI211/212 operating on the Delhi-Kathmandu-Delhi route have been cancelled today. We are closely monitoring the situation and will share further updates," Air India said in a statement on Tuesday.
