The Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI), an alliance of 29 members, has unanimously adopted the New Delhi declaration, affirming its commitment to a collaborative approach on applications that benefit people and drive a global governance framework for safe and trusted AI. The declaration also seeks to ensure that AI and its benefits are inclusive and available to all the countries of the world, including the Global South, said Minister of State for IT and Electronics Rajeev Chandrasekhar at a briefing during the ongoing GPAI Summit 2023.
Unanimous Adoption of New Delhi Declaration
Chandrasekhar highlighted that the 29 partner countries of GPAI participated in a 4.5-hour ministerial council meeting and unanimously adopted the New Delhi declaration. This declaration positions GPAI at the forefront of shaping the future of AI in terms of innovation and collaborative AI between partner nations. The aim is to create applications of AI in healthcare, agriculture, and other areas that concern all countries and people.
GPAI's Role in Shaping AI Governance
According to Chandrasekhar, the member nations agreed that GPAI will play a central role in shaping the future of AI governance and lead conversations on safe and trusted AI. The partnership will uphold the values of its partner countries and operate as an inclusive partnership. GPAI will focus on including countries from the Global South and making the benefits of AI and AI platforms, and solutions available to all people worldwide, including those in the Global South.
The adoption of the New Delhi declaration marks a significant step forward for the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence.
