According to the most recent official statistics on Thursday, the new Income Tax Department portal has effectively approved over 25 lakh returns, more than 3.57 crore new logins, and has issued over 7.90 lakh e-PANs. The website was released on June 7 under the new domain name www.incometax.gov.in, however, it ran into some difficulties since some of its features were not working fine. Official tax department sources, on the other hand, claim that the e-filing 2.0 website is currently operational and "gathering pace and processes are getting smooth".

Over the previous two weeks, the e-filing portal has seen 25,82,175 Income Tax Returns (ITRs) submitted effectively, 4,57,55,091 logins, and 3,57,47,303 unique logins by taxpayers, according to official statistics noticed by PTI. According to the statistics, a record of 80,23,266 ITRs was made, with over 6.07 lakh forms being made and 5,51,150 being submitted at the portal. The portal also saw 69,45,539 valid applications to link the Permanent Account Number (PAN) with Aadhaar, and 7,90,404 e-PANs were issued using the portal.
The portal has also accepted a total of 2,92,601 digital signature certificates (DSC) in the previous two weeks, according to the statement. Since the last few days, nearly 1.5 lakh ITRs have been filed through the platform, according to sources. Nirmala Sitharaman, the Finance Minister, stated on Wednesday that "she wished that the Infosys-developed website did not have such a launch and she hoped that the issues will be sorted out soon."
She further has stated that "I wish it (technical issues) hadn't happened this way. But we are correcting the course and sooner the portal will be as is planned, easy to use," according to the sources.
Sitharaman has also said that "Infosys is quite closely working with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and the ministry and rapidly, at least from what I hear from chartered accountants and income tax professionals, there is definitely a lot of improvement."
Between January 2019 and June 2021, the government has paid Infosys Rs 164.5 crore for implementing the site. On June 22, Sitharaman convened a conference with top Infosys executives to discuss concerns with the website, during which ICAI members highlighted challenges experienced by taxpayers and tax experts.
