On New Year's Eve, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced station closures on the Delhi metro lines to ease overcrowding. DMRC has restricted exit from Rajiv Chowk metro station after 9 pm on December 31. This means commuters will not be allowed to exit from Rajiv Chowk station after 9 pm on Sunday.
Commuters have been asked to plan their journey accordingly to save themselves from facing any inconvenience.

"As advised by the police authorities, to ease overcrowding on New Year's Eve (31st December, 2023), EXIT from Rajiv Chowk Metro station will NOT be allowed from 9:00 PM onwards. However, entry of passengers will be allowed till the departure of the last train from the Rajiv Chowk Metro station on 31st December. Commuters are requested to plan their journey accordingly. Metro services on the rest of the metro network will continue to remain available as per regular time table," said Anuj Dayal, Principal Executive Director, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.
On Monday, Metro services on the rest of the metro network will continue to remain available as per the regular timetable.
Traffic restrictions in Delhi for New Year's Eve
Ahead of the New Year celebrations in the national Capital, the Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory detailing traffic restrictions in and around central Delhi and asked people to be mindful of the subsequent congestion near commercial hubs. According to the advisory, no vehicular traffic shall be allowed in the inner, middle, or outer circle of Connaught Place from 8 pm onwards on December 31. The exact timing of when the restrictions would be lifted has not been specified by police.
According to a PTI report citing officials, Delhi Traffic Police will deploy 2,500 personnel to ensure smooth movement of vehicles and 250 teams will be tasked with checking drunken driving on New Year's Eve.
SS Yadav, Special Commissioner of Police (CP) (Traffic), said that on December 31, Delhi Police will ensure necessary arrangements and deployment of personnel at places where people are expected to gather.
Addressing a press conference, SS Yadav, Special CP (Traffic) said, "The deployment will be at locations like Connaught Place, India Gate, Aerocity, Qutub Minar, Greater Kailash, Saket Mall, Netaji Subhash Place, Mukherjee Nagar area, Vasant Kunj Mall, EDM Mall, Pacific Mall, Champa Gali, Hudson lane, Hauz Khas and other crowded places. Traffic will controlled in the Connaught Place area after 8 pm."
