The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has set four Guinness World Records for the Bengaluru-Kadapa-Vijayawada Economic Corridor, highlighting advancements in bituminous concrete laying techniques.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) announced on Sunday that it has achieved four Guinness World Records on the Bengaluru-Kadapa-Vijayawada Economic Corridor, part of NH-544G. On January 6, two records were set near Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh. These records involved the longest continuous laying of bituminous concrete and the highest quantity laid within 24 hours.

According to NHAI, the first record involved laying 28.89 lane km of bituminous concrete, equivalent to a 3-lane wide section stretching 9.63 km in just one day. The second record was for laying an impressive 10,655 metric tonnes of bituminous concrete within the same timeframe. Both achievements were firsts globally for a six-lane highway project.
Guinness World Records Achieved
On January 11, NHAI continued its record-breaking streak by setting two more Guinness World Records. These included laying 57,500 metric tonnes of bituminous concrete continuously and paving a 156 lane km stretch, which is a 3-lane wide section extending 52 km. This surpassed the previous world record of an 84.4 lane km or a 2-lane wide section measuring 42.2 km.
The Bengaluru-Kadapa-Vijayawada Economic Corridor is a significant infrastructure project spanning 343 km. It is designed as an access-controlled six-lane highway to provide safe and high-speed travel. The corridor includes features such as 17 interchanges, 10 wayside amenities, and a tunnel measuring 5.3 km in length.
Infrastructure and Scenic Features
Around 21 km of this corridor passes through forested areas, offering a scenic route for travellers. The record-setting activities took place across Package-2 and Package-3 of this economic corridor, showcasing NHAI's commitment to advancing infrastructure development in India.
NHAI's achievements highlight its dedication to enhancing road infrastructure while setting new global standards in highway construction. These records not only demonstrate engineering excellence but also contribute to improving connectivity between major cities in India.
