A widespread panic was triggered by viral social media posts about a supposed Cyclone Shakti for which the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an urgent clarification. The weather authority has debunked all rumours, confirming that no cyclone warning has been issued for India at present.
No Cyclone, Just a Weather Pattern: IMD Clears the Confusion
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has cleared the air about the recent online rumours about a cyclone. It says there is no cyclonic storm forming right now.
Many people are getting confused between two terms: cyclonic circulation and cyclonic storm. These are not the same. Cyclonic circulation is just changes in the weather, like clouds or light rain, but it does not mean a cyclone is coming.

The IMD has confirmed that no such cyclone is forming right now and asked people not to believe or spread false messages.
IMD Urges Public to Avoid Panic and Follow Official Weather Updates
The department strongly cautioned citizens against believing or sharing unverified cyclone forecasts. The IMD has not issued any cyclone warning as of now, and any official cyclone alert in India will be announced via formal IMD bulletins and press releases.
The meteorological agency also called on media platforms and social media users to avoid creating cyclone panic in India, warning that such actions could lead to public confusion during the pre-monsoon season.
Cyclone Watch India
While weather systems in the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea are under constant observation, the IMD reiterated that no cyclonic storm development has been detected so far. The department continues to monitor changes in cyclonic circulation patterns to issue timely alerts if needed.
With cyclone season nearing, distinguishing between technical meteorological terms is crucial. Misreporting cyclone news in India or spreading fake cyclone warnings not only sparks unnecessary fear but can also divert attention from real-time weather updates and preparedness efforts.
Stay Updated With Verified Cyclone Alerts
The IMD has appealed to the public to rely only on official weather forecasts, either through their website, the Mausam app, or authorised government media channels for accurate cyclone updates in India.
