Ola Electric, led by Bhavish Agarwal, is developing the Bharat Cell and Ferrite motor technology to reduce reliance on rare earth magnets in electric vehicles. This initiative aligns with the company's vision of a self-sufficient India in the EV sector.
Ola Electric is advancing its Gen 3 initiative with the development of the Bharat Cell and AI-enabled MoveOS software for electric vehicles. The company aims to innovate in the electric vehicle sector, as stated by founder-CEO Bhavish Aggarwal. During the annual Sankalp event themed "India Inside," Aggarwal shared Ola's vision for a self-reliant India in electric mobility.

Aggarwal emphasised the importance of building world-class products in India amidst global geopolitical challenges. He stated, "We want to build the best in India, and that's the spirit of Ola Electric." The event saw a large gathering of employees who were briefed on the company's future plans.
Focus on Bharat Cell and Ferrite Motor Technology
The Bharat Cell 4680, developed at Ola's Krishnagiri factory, promises faster recharging, enhanced safety, and cost-effective production. Rajesh Mekkat, Head of Research and Development at Ola Electric, highlighted that this cell offers over 15 years of battery life and charges 80% in just 15 minutes. This is a significant improvement over current competitors' cells.
Ola Electric has also introduced Ferrite Motor technology as an alternative to rare earth magnets. This innovation aims to reduce dependency on rare earth materials sourced from limited countries. Samraj Dhinakar, Head of Vehicle Engineering, noted that Ferrite Motor would replace rare earth magnets in future vehicles.
AI-Enabled MoveOS Software Enhancements
The AI-enabled MoveOS6 software was launched to enhance electric vehicle functionality. Anirbhan Das, Head of Software Engineering, explained that MoveOS6 includes features like battery life optimisation tips, a voice assistant, collision alerts, blind spot detection, and support for 11 languages. This software will be available to customers from January 2026.
In addition to these advancements, Ola unveiled the Ola Pro Sport scooter equipped with the Bharat Cell. The company plans to integrate this cell across all its products gradually. The Ferrite Motor technology will be incorporated into vehicles starting in the third quarter of the current financial year.
Future Plans for Electric Two-Wheelers
Aggarwal also introduced the prototype electric motorcycle Diamond Head, which is expected to launch by mid-2027 with a price target under Rs 5 lakh. This model will feature self-driving technology and can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in two seconds. Aggarwal expressed his ambition to revolutionise electric two-wheelers with this high-performance bike.
Ola Electric's Gen 3 initiative encompasses these developments, aiming to position the company as a leader in the global electric vehicle market. The focus remains on innovation and self-sufficiency within India's growing electric mobility landscape.
