Onam 2024: Demand For Papad Skyrockets Amid Kerala's Biggest 10-Day Festival; Check Latest Prices

Onam 2024: The annual harvest and traditional festival, Onam, has kickstarted with immense enthusiasm in Kerala since September 5, and will continue till September 15, 2024. Amidst, the demand for papad has skyrocketed, and as per report, is expected to achieve robust growth this year.

The production of papad in all shapes and sizes has tripled during the Onam 2024 season, as per a report by Mathurbhumi, a Kerala-based news channel.

Kerala, the tropical city is producing likely 10,000 kilograms of papad on per day basis. The report said that in 2024 Onam, about Rs 3 crore worth of papads will hit the shelves.

Papad Prices, Onam 2024:

During the season, in Onam market, the price of papad ranges from Rs 20 to Rs 50. Of this, a Rs 20 packet will contain somewhat 12 papads.

The report pointed out that due to rising demand and raw material costs, the number of papads per packet has been reduced instead of increasing prices. Further, the Kerala Papad Manufacturers Association (KPMA) has released measures such as introducing a seal on packages of papad to assure customers of its authenticity and quality.

With the KPMA seal, approximately 300 manufacturers are supplying papads in the city, while the association is aiming to expand the number to 400 manufacturers, as per the Kerala news channel report.

Onam is an annual harvest and cultural festival celebrated mostly by the people of Kerala. A major annual event for Keralites, it is the official festival of the state and includes a spectrum of cultural events, as per Wikipedia.

Further, the date of the Onam celebration is based on the Panchangam and falls on the 22nd nakshatra Thiruvonam in the month Chingam of the Malayalam calendar, which in the Gregorian calendar falls between August-September.

In 2024, Onam will be celebrated between September 5 to September 15, 2024.
