Parliament Budget Session: The second half of the Parliament's Budget Session is scheduled to resume on Monday, March 9. The Budget session is likely to see a direct clash as the Lok Sabha is scheduled to debate an Opposition-backed motion to remove Speaker Om Birla. Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will address both Houses of Parliament on the escalating crisis in the Middle East.
As the ripple effects of the escalating US-Iran conflict begin to hit India, triggering a sharp stock market crash on Monday, pushing the Indian rupee to a record low, and driving crude oil prices sharply higher, the geopolitical crisis is expected to dominate discussions in Parliament. Here are key things to expect from the Parliament's budget session set to resume on Monday, March 9.

Motion Against Om Birla
The Lok Sabha is likely to see a heated discussion over the motion against Om Birla, Lok Sabha speaker. The motion was submitted by 118 opposition MPs, and it accuses the Speaker of behaving in a "blatantly partisan" way while running Lok Sabha proceedings. After the notice, Birla stepped aside from the chair and is expected to resume presiding only once the House decides on the motion.
Budget Session To Continue Till April 2
The Parliamentary Budget Session is scheduled to remain till April 2. The session may also include discussion over key bills and other issues. As per ther revised list of business, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will brief both Houses on the fast-worsening Middle East conflict that began on February 28.
Middle East War
The government is tracking the safety of Indian citizens across Gulf countries as the war enters its tenth day. In recent conversations, PM Modi has spoken with Haitham bin Tarik, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Mohammed bin Salman, stressing the protection and welfare of the large Indian diaspora in the region.
Opposition to Raise Issue of Rising Oil Prices
The escalating Middle East tensions has pushed crude oil prices to record high mark. India is one of the biggest importers of crude oil price and may see a direct impact of the development. Recently, the price of domestic LPG cylinder also saw a sharp jump of nearly Rs 60 (for domestic LPG cylinders).
Opposition parties are preparing to press the government on India's diplomatic stand, the impact of rising oil prices and potential shocks to global energy supplies.
Finance Bill 2026
Legislative business in the second half of the Budget session of Parliament will centre on examining Demands for Grants for various ministries for 2026-27 and passing the Finance Bill 2026. The Bill carries tax measures already announced in the Union Budget, which MPs will now discuss alongside the charged political and foreign policy debates.
