Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared a reduction of Rs 100 in the price of LPG cylinders on the occasion of International Women's Day aimed at providing relief to households. The announcement, made through the Prime Minister's official X account, emphasized the government's commitment to alleviating the financial burden on millions of households, particularly benefiting women across the nation.
The price cut, which brings the cost of a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder down to Rs 903 in Delhi, is set to take effect from midnight today. PM Modi took to social media, stating, "This will significantly ease the financial burden on millions of households across the country, especially benefiting our Nari Shakti. By making cooking gas more affordable, we also aim to support the well-being of families and ensure a healthier environment. This is in line with our commitment to empowering women and ensuring 'Ease of Living' for them."

The move comes as a welcome relief to households grappling with rising living costs and aligns with the government's broader vision of promoting a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle. The reduction is not only a financial respite but also a step towards creating an environment that supports the well-being of families.
In tandem with the LPG price cut, the government also announced a positive development for beneficiaries under the Ujjwala Yojana. From April 1, poor women availing themselves of LPG cylinders under the scheme will continue to receive a subsidy of Rs 300 per cylinder. The Ujjwala Yojana, which aims to provide clean cooking fuel to women from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, has been instrumental in transforming the lives of many.
Last October, the government increased the subsidy from Rs 200 to Rs 300 per 14.2 kg cylinder for up to 12 refills per year. The extension of this subsidy for the next fiscal year reinforces the government's commitment to supporting the economically vulnerable sections of society, particularly women, by making clean cooking fuel more accessible.
In a separate message on social media, PM Modi extended his greetings on International Women's Day, acknowledging and appreciating the strength, courage, and resilience of women across the country. Modi stated, "We salute the strength, courage, and resilience of our Nari Shakti and laud their accomplishments across various fields. Our government is committed to empowering women through initiatives in education, entrepreneurship, agriculture, technology and more."
The Prime Minister highlighted the government's achievements in the last decade, emphasizing its unwavering dedication to women's empowerment. The multifaceted approach, spanning education, entrepreneurship, agriculture, and technology, underscores the commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for women in India.
As the reduced LPG prices take effect and the Ujjwala Yojana subsidy extension comes into play, these initiatives not only signify financial relief but also reflect the government's broader commitment to empowering women and ensuring their holistic well-being.
