Prime Minister Narendra Modi is anticipated to open the inaugural telecom standards conference in India, organised by the United Nations' International Telecommunication Union (ITU), alongside the India Mobile Congress (IMC) on 15 October. Invitations from event organisers confirm his participation. The World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA) occurs every four years, shaping communication technology development through its approved recommendations.

The ITU expressed enthusiasm about WTSA-24, stating, "ITU is excited to announce that WTSA-24 will be inaugurated by His Excellency, the Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, on Tuesday 15 October 2024." This highlights the significance of the event for global telecommunications.
India Mobile Congress 2024: A Global Technology Hub
Coinciding with WTSA 2024, the eighth edition of the India Mobile Congress will take place. Supported by the telecom department, IMC has grown significantly in size and scope. This year, it aims to double its global participation compared to last year. Over 120 countries are expected to join, reinforcing IMC's status as Asia's largest technology expo and a key player in digital transformation worldwide.
Ramakrishna P, CEO of IMC, noted increased interest from nations such as the UK, Japan, Sweden, and Finland. He stated, "We are seeing increased engagement from countries like UK, Japan, Sweden, Finland and others in the upcoming edition." This reflects the growing international appeal of the event.
Spotlight on Innovation and Technology
IMC 2024 is set to feature over 400 exhibitors and nearly 900 startups. The event will see participation from more than 120 countries. In comparison, last year's IMC saw over 230 exhibitors, 400 startups, and representation from around 67 countries. This growth underscores IMC's expanding influence in the tech industry.
Themed "Future is Now," this year's congress will cover topics such as quantum technology and circular economy. It will also highlight advancements in 6G and showcase 5G use cases. Other areas of focus include cloud and edge computing, IoT, semiconductors, satellite communications (satcom), and electronics manufacturing.
The upcoming events mark a significant milestone for India's role in global telecommunications and technology innovation. With increased international participation and a focus on cutting-edge topics, both WTSA-24 and IMC 2024 promise to be pivotal gatherings for industry leaders and innovators alike.
