Pongal 2026 is just around the corner, and preparations are ongoing in full swing in Tamil Nadu and in Tamilian families across the world. Pongal is one of India's most important Hindu harvest festivals, and it coincides with other regional harvest celebrations such as Makar Sankranti, Lohri and Uttarayan.

Pongal is a four-day festival dedicated to gratitude towards nature, the Sun God, cattle, and agricultural prosperity. Here is everything you need to know about Pongal 2026, including the date, auspicious timings, rituals, and the significance of the festival.
Pongal 2026 Date
According to the traditional Tamil calendar and Drik Panchang calculations, Pongal 2026 will be celebrated from January 13 to January 16, with Thai Pongal (Surya Pongal) falling on Wednesday, January 14. The main Pongal celebration begins on the first day of the Tamil month of Thai, which is why January 14 is considered the most important day of the festival.
