Positive trends are emerging in both rural and urban consumption, with inflation consistently easing, according to top officials from Procter & Gamble Hygiene and Health Care Ltd (PGHHC). They noted that the financial outlook remains attractive for investments. PGHHC's Managing Director and CEO, P&G India, V Kumar, highlighted that rural demand is expected to remain strong due to favourable rainfall in over 75 districts.

Rural Demand and Strategic Planning
Government interventions are anticipated to stabilise wage issues and rising unemployment soon. Despite some challenges in the near term, PGHHC is confident in its strategic approach to navigate these difficulties. "We are definitely seeing green shoots in rural consumption, primarily behind good monsoon softening inflation," said PGHHC CFO Mrinalini Srinivasan.
The company operates in the feminine care category with Whisper and the Cough & Cold segment with Vicks, leading both markets with nearly half the market share. Feminine care accounts for about 70% of its revenue, while healthcare contributes around 30%. The festive season aligns with a crucial buying period, and PGHHC has developed comprehensive plans to cater to both rural and urban markets through various retail channels.
Distribution and Digital Transformation
Over the past three years, PGHHC has expanded its reach by more than 1.5 times. In the feminine hygiene category alone, distribution footprints have grown over 1.2 times. The company leverages data and digital transformation through an in-house AI and machine learning algorithm that analyses consumer behaviour patterns.
This technology enables a shift from cluster-level planning to store or neighbourhood-level planning. It helps consumers find desired products in stores while aiding store owners in maximising sales and optimising inventory. PGHHC has also entered the sleep category with Vicks ZzzQuil, focusing on addressing occasional sleeplessness through a multi-channel approach.
Quick Commerce Growth
India's quick commerce sector has seen a 22% increase in monthly active users on top platforms from January to July this year. Although currently a small channel for PGHHC, it is growing rapidly and expected to drive FMCG growth as it expands geographically. The company has invested in understanding consumer behaviour on quick commerce platforms, noting a unique path to purchase focused on convenience.
PGHHC follows a July-June financial year and reported a 7.34% increase in revenue, reaching Rs 4,205.70 crore in 2024. This growth reflects their strategic focus on expanding market presence and leveraging digital tools to enhance consumer engagement across diverse channels.
