After HDFC Bank's online services remained disturbed between November 21 evening and November 22 morning, the apex banker of the country RBI sought clarifications from the bank. The technical snag at the bank's data centres caused all of the services including ATM, card services as well as UPI to be hit for more than 12 hours.

"The regulator has sought details and the reasons behind the data centre outage. Depending on the report submitted by the bank, an internal RBI team will examine it and take further steps," said the Economic Times report citing sources.
"The concern especially is that three big system blackouts happened within two years despite the bank saying last time it had updated its processes and systems," the source added.
To this the bank clarified that the fault at one of its data centre caused the disruption of its services and now things are back to normal.
Dear Customers, the services impacted following the outage have been restored. While you may face intermittent issues as the system stabilizes there is no reason to worry now! Our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused. Thank you for bearing with us during this period," HDFC said in a tweet.
In December 2019, also there was panic among HDFC Bank customers as they were able to service their debt repayments or settle credit card dues.
And soon after the deputy governor of RBI looked into the matter and deputed a team for investigating the situation and it was revealed that the outage arose as the bank
underestimated" growth in payment volumes and it was more of a capacity issue.
