Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, a subsidiary of Jio Platforms Limited, unveiled Jio SpaceFiber during the opening of the India Mobile Congress 2023 in New Delhi. The launch took place in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking a significant step in India's mission to bridge the digital divide.
Jio SpaceFiber, India's first-ever satellite-based GigaFiber service, builds on Jio's legacy of providing high-speed broadband services to more than 450 million consumers across the country. The service aims to expedite digital inclusion by offering high-speed broadband connectivity to previously underserved regions throughout India.

Jio SpaceFiber is set to complement Jio's existing premier broadband services, JioFiber and JioAirFiber. It leverages advanced satellite technology to deliver scalable and cost-effective broadband access to every corner of the nation. Reliance Jio has joined forces with SES, a global satellite operator, to utilize medium earth orbit (MEO) satellite technology, specifically SES's O3b and new O3b mPOWER satellites. This strategic partnership makes Jio the exclusive provider of this revolutionary technology in India, raising the bar for reliability and service flexibility.
Jio SpaceFiber has already taken its first steps in connecting remote areas across the country. Presently operational in four of India's most remote locations - Gir in Gujarat, Korba in Chattisgarh, Nabarangpur in Odisha, and ONGC-Jorhat in Assam, Jio SpaceFiber is set to transform the lives of millions in these regions. Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, expressed his enthusiasm, stating that 'Jio has made it possible for millions of Indian households and businesses to experience broadband internet for the first time.'
With Jio SpaceFiber, they are now expanding their coverage to reach those who are yet to be connected. This satellite-based service promises universal access, empowering individuals and communities to participate fully in the digital era, with gigabit-speed access to essential online government services, education, healthcare, and entertainment.
Reliance Jio has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that consumers and businesses, regardless of their location, can enjoy reliable, low-latency, high-speed internet and entertainment services. The introduction of the satellite network will also bolster mobile backhaul capacity, expanding the reach and scale of Jio True5G, particularly in remote areas where connectivity has historically been a challenge.
