Rishab Shetty's much-anticipated prequel, Kantara: Chapter 1, is rewriting box office records across the country and beyond. Released in theatres on October 2, 2025, the film has achieved a phenomenal milestone by grossing Rs 400 crore globally within just six days of its release, a feat few Indian films have accomplished in such a short span.

The film, which serves as a prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara, is both written, directed, and headlined by Rishab Shetty. Produced by Hombale Films, the movie features powerful performances from Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram and Gulshan Devaiah. It has been released in five languages; Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam. The Kannada and Hindi versions, in particular, have driven the bulk of the box office performance, showcasing the film's wide-ranging appeal among Indian audiences.

In India alone, Kantara: Chapter 1 has seen a remarkable surge in collections, especially over its first six days. As per data from Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 33.5 crore nett on its sixth day (October 7), which is Rs 2 crore more than the Rs 31.5 crore collected on Day 5, indicating rising momentum mid-week.

Day 1 (Oct 2): Rs 61.85 crore
Day 2: Rs 45.4 crore
Day 3: Rs 55 crore

Kantara: Chapter 1 Hindi Version Leads To Join Rs 300 Crore Club Today
Language-wise, the Hindi version alone has contributed Rs 93.25 crore nett, while the Kannada version has brought in Rs 89.35 crore nett. The Telugu version has also performed strongly with Rs 57.4 crore nett.
The Hindi-speaking regions, in particular, saw a notable spike on Day 6, with collections estimated between Rs 10.50-11.50 crore, marking a 20% jump compared to Monday.
Kantara: Chapter 1 in Karnataka: All-Time Biggest First Monday, Beating Baahubali 2
While the film has performed impressively across India, Kantara: Chapter 1 has been nothing short of a box office phenomenon in Karnataka, its home state. The film recorded the biggest opening weekend ever in Karnataka and followed it up with the all-time highest Monday gross in the state.
On its first Monday alone, the film grossed approximately Rs 15 crore, surpassing the previous record of Rs 11.50 crore set by Baahubali 2: The Conclusion and leaving KGF Chapter 2 (Rs 9.50 crore) in third place as per Sacnilk data.
In just five days, the film grossed Rs 93 crore in Karnataka, and by Day 6, it had crossed the Rs 100 crore gross mark in the state, becoming only the fourth film in history to do so. As of now, it has become the highest-grossing film in Karnataka, surpassing KGF Chapter 2 (Rs 183 crore) and Baahubali 2 (Rs 129 crore), with a current gross of Rs 183.60 crore in the state.
With the current trajectory, industry experts believe that Kantara: Chapter 1 could be on its way to becoming the first-ever Rs 200 crore grosser in Karnataka.
