President Vladimir Putin has stated that Russia will not extend a warm welcome to McDonald's if the fast-food chain decides to return. This comes amidst reports of foreign companies showing interest in re-entering the Russian market. McDonald's left Russia in 2022 due to Western sanctions related to the Ukraine conflict.

McDonald's sold its Russian operations to a local investor, who had been a franchise partner since 2015, managing 25 restaurants in Siberia. These outlets were rebranded as "Vkusno I Tochka," which translates to "Tasty and That’s It," and have been operating since June 12, 2022.
Foreign Companies Eye Russian Market
During a Kremlin meeting with business leaders, Putin addressed Vkusno I Tochka CEO Oleg Paroyev. He remarked, "They McDonalds put everyone in a difficult position, ran away, and now, if they want to come back, are we supposed to roll out the red carpet for them? Of course not."
Putin has instructed the government to develop a framework for the potential return of foreign companies. The aim is to ensure this process is calm and non-hostile while prioritising the interests of Russian businesses.
Support for Local Entrepreneurs
The President assured full governmental backing for Russian entrepreneurs. He stated, "There can’t even be any doubts about this. Together with you, we will work through everything, think it through, down to the last detail. But only to our advantage."
Putin mentioned that some major companies in other economic sectors have expressed interest in resuming business ties with their foreign partners. He advised them to allow these partners back only if it benefits their interests.
"I replied — let them come back but make sure it’s on your terms. If it is advantageous for you, let them return. If it works for you, go ahead, if not, we’ll make it so it does. That’s it," he added.
