Samsung Electronics, a leading tech company from South Korea, announced the passing of Han Jong-Hee on March 25th. Han, who was 63, died from cardiac arrest. The company has not yet disclosed who will succeed him. A spokesperson confirmed that Han passed away in a hospital on Tuesday while receiving treatment for his condition.
Han Jong-Hee was born in 1962 and joined Samsung after earning an electrical engineering degree from Inha University in 1988. Initially responsible for display operations, he later led Samsung's electronics and device divisions. Han had been with the company for over 37 years and took charge of its consumer electronics and mobile device business in 2022.
Samsung honoured Han Jong-Hee for his dedication to the company, particularly in transforming its TV business into a global leader. He was instrumental in launching Samsung's LED TVs and other technological advancements. His leadership helped the company maintain its position at the forefront of the tech industry.

Recently, Han chaired Samsung's shareholder meeting, showcasing his active involvement in the company's operations. His passing occurs as Samsung faces challenges from SK Hynix Inc. in the AI memory sector and grapples with weak consumer electronics demand.
Han Jong-Hee's career at Samsung spanned over three decades, during which he significantly contributed to its growth and innovation. In 2022, he was appointed vice president and co-CEO of Samsung Electronics, reflecting his pivotal role within the organisation.
His leadership came at a crucial time as Samsung navigates competitive pressures and market challenges. Despite these hurdles, Han's contributions have left a lasting impact on the company's trajectory.
The news of Han Jong-Hee's death has left a void within Samsung Electronics as they continue to face industry challenges. His legacy will be remembered for his commitment to innovation and leadership within the company.
