Consumer electronics giant Samsung has announced a strong market response to its newly launched seventh-generation foldable smartphone series, receiving a staggering 2.1 lakh pre-orders within the first 48 hours of launch in India. The company introduced its latest foldables including Galaxy Z Fold7, Galaxy Z Flip7 and Galaxy Z Flip7 FE in the Indian market on July 9, 2025.
According to Samsung, the high volume of pre-orders in just two days reflects "huge consumer demand and excitement" for the newest addition to its foldable lineup.

Samsung's statement noted that these pre-order numbers are almost identical to those received for its flagship Galaxy S25 series, which earlier this year garnered a record 4.3 lakh pre-orders over a nearly three-week period post-launch. However, when comparing just the first 48 hours, the foldable series has matched the Galaxy S25's pace, a major milestone for a product line still considered niche by many.
Made-in-India Flagship Devices: Premium Pricing, Local Manufacturing
The newly launched foldable devices are part of Samsung's "Made-in-India" initiative, and are positioned firmly in the super-premium smartphone category, competing directly with Apple and other high-end manufacturers.
The pricing details for the devices are as follows:
Galaxy Z Fold7: Starts at Rs 1.75 lakh, going up to Rs 2.11 lakh
Galaxy Z Flip7: Priced between Rs 1.10 lakh and Rs 1.22 lakh
Galaxy Z Flip7 FE: The most affordable model in the series, priced between Rs 89,000 and Rs 95,999
Samsung's Vision: Foldables Go Mainstream in India
Speaking on the milestone, JB Park, President and CEO of Samsung Southwest Asia, stated, "The record pre-orders for our Made-in-India foldable smartphones reinforce our belief that young Indian consumers are quick to adopt the latest technology."
He added that the seventh generation of foldables represents the next chapter in smartphone evolution, describing the Galaxy Z Fold7 as Samsung's "most advanced smartphone experience yet - powerful, immersive, intelligent, and portable." The Galaxy Z Flip7, on the other hand, is positioned as a lifestyle-driven device, designed to "adapt, anticipate, and empower users."
Park emphasized that the success of this launch is a "stepping stone toward mainstreaming foldable smartphones in India," a segment that has until recently been limited to tech enthusiasts and early adopters.
Market Context: Samsung's Premium Push Amid Strong Competition
In India's rapidly evolving smartphone market, Samsung continues to face stiff competition, particularly from Apple in the ultra-premium segment (devices priced above USD 1,000, or around Rs 83,000). However, local manufacturing, aggressive marketing, and strong channel presence have helped Samsung build a loyal base for its foldables.
According to market research firm IDC, Samsung was the second-largest smartphone brand in India in Q1 2025, with a 16.4% market share by shipments. Vivo led the market during the same quarter with a 19.7% share, while Apple continued to dominate the premium price segment.
