Samsung, a leading South Korean electronics company, is developing a tri-fold phone with plans to release it by the end of this year. Minseok Kang, Vice President of Product Planning at Samsung Electronics, confirmed this during an event for their latest flagship phones. The company aims to perfect the product and prepare it for commercialisation.

The development of the tri-fold device is ongoing, with Samsung evaluating crucial factors before making a final decision on its commercial release. Kang stated that the target is to launch the device by year-end. He emphasised that new devices must meet form factor completeness, user satisfaction, and mass production readiness.
Focus on Innovation and User Experience
Samsung has been at the forefront of innovation in smartphone design. The company introduced its first Fold device in 2019 and recently launched the seventh edition, Galaxy Z Fold 7. This model is considered a breakthrough in engineering, offering improved operability and immersive experiences.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 measures 8.9 mm when folded and 4.2 mm when unfolded, making it nearly half as thick as the original Fold. Weighing just 215 grams, it is lighter than many premium devices from competitors and even some bar-type phones.
Competition and Market Dynamics
Samsung faces competition from brands like Vivo, Motorola, and OnePlus in the foldable phone market. Despite this, Kang believes that the Fold 7 and Flip 7 are pivotal in transitioning foldables from niche products to mainstream options. They offer features beyond traditional bar-type smartphones.
Kang noted that foldable and bar phones would coexist in the market. While foldables could become mainstream, bar phones will continue to satisfy user needs. "I do not believe that one will completely replace the other; both can coexist and fulfil different user requirements," he said.
Samsung's commitment to innovation is evident as they push boundaries through advanced engineering and design. The company's focus remains on delivering products that enhance user experience while maintaining high standards of quality and performance.
