The State Bank of India (SBI) has announced significant changes to its credit card reward structures, which will impact the accrual of reward points on select transactions. These changes will be implemented between March 31, 2025, and April 1, 2025.

Which Credit Cards Will Be Impacted?
The following SBI credit cards will be affected by the revised reward point structure:
- SimplyCLICK SBI Card
- Air India SBI Platinum Credit Card
- Air India SBI Signature Credit Card
What Are the Changes?
SimplyCLICK SBI Card: Reduced Reward Points On Swiggy
- Starting April 1, 2025, the reward points on Swiggy transactions will be revised from 10X Reward Points to 5X Reward Points.
- However, cardholders will continue to earn 10X Reward Points on online transactions with Apollo 24X7, BookMyShow, Cleartrip, Domino's, IGP, Myntra, Netmeds, and Yatra.
Air India SBI Platinum Credit Card: Reduced Reward Points On Air India Tickets
- Effective March 31, 2025, the reward structure for Air India transactions will be revised.
- The accelerated reward benefit will be reduced from 15 Reward Points per Rs 100 spent to 5 Reward Points per Rs 100 spent when purchasing Air India tickets through the airline's website or mobile app.
Air India SBI Signature Credit Card: Reduced Reward Points On Air India Tickets
- From March 31, 2025, the reward benefit for Air India transactions will drop from 30 Reward Points per Rs 100 spent to 10 Reward Points per Rs 100 spent.
Additionally, effective July 26, 2025, the complimentary Air Accident Insurance coverage of Rs 50 lakhs and the complimentary Rail Accident Insurance coverage of Rs 10 lakhs will be discontinued, as per the SBI Card website.
Earlier this year, SBI has updated certain credit card guidelines
- Discontinuation of reward points for payments related to education, government transactions, rent, and the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS).
- A 1 per cent fee on utility payments exceeding Rs 50,000.
Other Major Banks Announce Credit Card Policy Changes In 2025
Along with SBI, several other major banks have introduced significant changes to their credit card reward structures and fees.
Axis Bank
- A new redemption fee for EDGE Rewards and miles.
- Revised interest rates, penalty charges, and transaction fees.
- Introduction of additional fees on fuel transactions, rent payments, and wallet loads.
YES Bank
- A cap on reward points for flight and hotel redemptions.
- Implementation of a new spending threshold for complimentary lounge access.
HDFC Bank
- A 1 per cent fee on utility bill payments exceeding Rs 50,000.
- A 1 per cent fee on fuel transactions above Rs 15,000.
These changes highlight a growing trend among banks to revise their credit card benefits, likely in response to evolving market conditions and cost structures. Cardholders are advised to review these updates carefully and adjust their spending patterns accordingly to maximize benefits and minimize additional fees.
