School Holiday: All schools, colleges and other educational institutions will remain closed in Kerala's Idukki district on Wednesday, October 22 due to heavy rainfall alert. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the district due to severe rainfall.
The Kerala district is facing heavy downpour over the past one to two days. In the wake of severe rainfall in the area, the Idukki district administration has announced holiday of schools and colleges for the day. However, the holiday direction doesn't apply to students residing in residential or boarding institutions where classes and operations will continue as usual, noted according to local website, Manorama Online.

School Holiday In Kerala Holiday
Schools will remain shut in Idukki on Wednesday due to heavy rainfall alert in the Kerala district. However, boarding schools will function on Wednesday. Additionally, people have been advised to avoid going outside to avoid harsh weather conditions.
Kerala Rainfall: IMD Issues Alert
The weather forecasting agency, in its special weather bulletin, has issued alert for multiple Kerala districts due to heavy rainfall from Tuesday. Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad , Malappuram, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasargod & Lakshadweep, etc have been kept under red and yellow alert.
IMD Sounds 'Red Alert' For THESE Kerala Districts
The weather forecasting agency has issued red alert for Idukki, Palakkad and Malappuram on Wednesday, October 22. As per IMD, these districts will receive heavy (7-11cm in 24 hours) to very heavy (12-20cm in 24 hours) rainfall. Additionally, there is a possibility of isolated extremely heavy (>20 cm in 24 hours) rainfall in some places of the district.
Kerala Rainfall: Orange Alert For These Districts
Multiple districts in Kerala, including Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Wayanad will remain on 'Orange' alert on Wednesday, October 22. Whereas, Kannur and Kasaragod are on Orange alert on Thursday. Some places of districts with 'Orange alert' can witness heavy (7-11cm in 24 hours) to very heavy (12-20cm in 24 hours) rainfall.
Yellow Alert Warning
Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kannur, Kasargod & Lakshadweep are on Yellow Alert on Wednesday, October 22. Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Malappuram, Kozhikode & Wayanad are on yellow alert on Thursday. Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur & Kasargod are on yellow alert on Friday.
The IMD's warnings highlight the need for caution as Kerala faces adverse weather conditions. Residents are advised to stay informed about updates and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during this period of intense weather activity.
